Isabel Duarte - Chemical Engineering Degree in University of Coimbra (FCTUC, 1992), Materials Engineering Master’s Degree in University of Lisbon (IST/UL, 1998) and PhD in Sciences of Engineering at University of Porto (FEUP, 2005). Her PhD research work, finished in 2005, was done on “Metallic Foams: Production, Characterization and Numerical Simulation” at the Fraunhofer IFAM Bremen under the guidance of Prof. John Banhart (Material Institute Head, https://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/media/media/spezial/people/banhart/html/index.html) and Prof. António JM Ferreira (Vice-Head, ORCID: 0000-0003-4043-9838; FEUP, Portugal). She has been awarded with numerous scholarships and fellowships and has gained professional experience at several universities and institutions in both Portugal and abroad (Fraunhofer IFAM Institute in Bremen, Germany). In 2005, became a researcher with permanent position at the LNEG (Lisbon, Portugal). In 2009, she moved and became a permanent member of staff at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of University of Aveiro (DEM/UA) and became an effective member of TEMA. She is also an elected member of Council of the DEM/UA and a member of the Commission for Communication, Dissemination and Promotion of DEM/UA. From 2013, she is an inviting Researcher at the University of Maribor (Slovenia). She has focused her research in the porous and cellular materials field, where she has vast experience. She has been collaborating with the most renowned international experts within an international network in these thematic fields. Her research work in this field, resulted in the development of equipment (e.g. Automated continuous production line of parts made of metallic foams) and prototypes on Al-alloy foams including sandwich panels, complex 3D shaped structures (gun and steering wheel), ex-situ and in-situ profiles filled with cellular metal cores and hybrid structures based on aluminium foam. These prototypes have been exhibiting in UA Stand in several events (TECHDAYS, Blue Business and Empirika). Through her scientific career, she has published more than 41 articles in SCI journals with over 1210 citations, 75 conference proceedings and book and 6 editorships for books and journal issues in the field of cellular materials. Currently, she is a member of editorial board member of Metals Journal (ISSN 2075-4701; impact factor: 2.259; MDPI) and she is a main guest editor of special issues on the cellular materials at Materials Science and Engineering A (ISSN: 0921-5093; impact Factor: 4.08; Elsevier) and Metals Journal (ISSN 2075-4701; impact factor: 2.259). She is a reviewer in 10 top ranked scientific journals in the area of Materials Science and Engineering and a member of several professional organisations and working groups (Portuguese and German Society of Materials). She holds two patents. She has organised several international workshops on multifunctional cellular materials. Moreover, she is the founder and main organizer of the InCell series conference (International Conference on Multifunctional Cellular Materials, incell.ua.pt), started in 2015 (at UA, Portugal) and taking place every two years.
